Careful Pre Op Planning:Septoplasty In Children

Traditionally, concern about the role of the septum in the overall growth of the midface has led ENT Surgeons to take a very cautious approach to correction of septal deformities in children. Septoplasty isn\’t usually done on children under 15. However, if the problem is very severe, septoplasty may be done in older children.
Hence careful pre operative assessment about the age and facial growth are taken into consideration.
(An young girl of 15 is having severe nasal obstruction, snoring, sleep apnea and mouth breathing. She is undergoing a limited septoplasty under GA. Pre op planning is important in performing septal surgery in children, to avoid future deformity of the nasal pyramid).
