Tonsillar Remnant

A very common complaint from some patients who underwent tonsillectomy. The reason for this type of sore throat is due to re growth of tonsil remnant or unrelated granular chronic pharyngitis. The Tonsillectomy must have done for wrong indication.

Tonsils remnants are more common in patients who underwent Guillotine tonsillectomy which was popular in olden days. It is rare after dissection method of Tonsillectomy, but can occur if the tonsil tissues are not completely removed.

Quinsy (Peritonsillar abscess) formation is another complication in Tonsil remnants.

Laser Vaporization is the easiest method to remove these remnants. It can be done in office under local anesthesia.
