An Interim Review- Cases done in 2 years

Total number of LAUP/LAPT/LAS/Laser tonsillectomy- 227 cases

37 cases under local anesthetic and 190 cases under GA

Co2 laser was used.

Overall, about 80% patients got better after the procedure.

4 cases had to be repeated, second procedure was done under local anesthetic.

Complication-Mainly pain, mild to moderate in all patients. Temporary nasal regurgitation which lasted 2-3 weeks, in few cases but their snoring and sleep apnea disappeared completely. Reactionary bleeding in 2 cases which was done under Local anesthesia. Nobody complained change in voice.

Causes of failure-Other factors like bulky tongue base, retruding lower jaw, obesity, inadequate removal of tissues causing obstruction.

Coblator channeling and reduction of tongue base can improve the overall result.

I thank all the anesthetists of my team to whom some cases were real challenge in pre and post operative period…
