About Jesus’ Amazing Healing Powers

Mark 5:21-34

A woman, who had already passed the joyous years of childhood, began to bleed. Filled with fear, she sought all the medical care then available. Nothing could be done to stop her menstrual bleeding. Considered unclean by others in the Jewish society of those days, she found her social life over.

This would have been very serious because among the Jews a menstruating woman was “unclean,” and being perpetually unclean for twelve years couldn’t have been pleasant, even if the condition itself wasn’t physically troublesome. Thus, we have is a person who is not only experiencing a physical malady but a religious one as well.

She must have been humiliated and filled with despair. Where could she turn to? Those who have suffered a chronic ailment know that there comes a time when death can seem preferable to continuing with the burden. But one day word came to her about Jesus, the Divine Healer.

She had no money to offer a healer, other healers had taken all she had over the twelve years she had been ill. Besides, she felt like such a pitiable wretch that she could not bear to stand before Jesus and ask for healing. Because of her impurity, her condition was so much worse than everyone else’s. She could not talk about it without feeling the redness of shame rising in her face. But perhaps there was a way. Perhaps if she could just touch Him, that would be enough. Maybe there was hope. She set out to find Jesus.

Then the bleeding woman found Jesus and touched Him. Knowing that He had healed someone, Jesus stopped and called her to Him. Feeling that the healing she now felt might be taken from her, she came to Him, fell at His feet, and confessed her need. She doesn’t actually approach to ask for Jesus’ help, which makes sense if she considers herself unclean. Instead, she joins those pressing close to him and touches his garment. This, for some reason, works. Just touching Jesus’ clothing heals her immediately, as if Jesus has imbued his clothing with his power or is leaking healthy energy.

Why does Jesus ask who touched him? It’s a bizarre question — even his disciples think he’s being goofy in asking it. They are surrounded by a crowd of people pressing him to see him. Who touched Jesus? Everyone did — two or three times, probably. Of course, that leads us to wonder why this woman in particular was healed.

But the only words he had for her were words of reassurance. Her joy at healing returned, and she went away with peace in her heart. All had shunned her before because of her uncleanness, but Jesus had called her “Daughter.” In doing so, He placed her on equal footing with Jairus’s daughter in God’s love.

Never Give up

The answer comes from Jesus: she was healed not because Jesus wanted to heal her or because she was the only one who needed healing, but rather because she had faith. As with previous instances of Jesus healing someone, it ultimately comes back to the quality of their faith which determines whether it is possible. In the end, being relieved of her presumed uncleanliness was just a matter of having the right sort of faith. There was no need to perform sacrifices or rituals or obey complicated laws to get healed.

God’s will is for us to sense our own need and come to Him. He will heal us. His love assures us of that. He also wants us to believe that others can be healed with His love and to have faith that this will happen.

Holy Eucharist

If you believe the Holy Eucharist as the Body of Christ, the moment you “touch” and consume it, you are touching Jesus. You are touching God!!!. He will know the moment you come in contact with Him. Even if you are unclean and a sinner, you will be made transformed like “Christ”. It is amazing!!!!!!!

This is the Body of Christ-Amen

“I am hungry, I am dying, I am abandoned, I am in pain”

I visited the Providence home in outskirts of the city of Trivandrum today, the sisters of Providence home look after 75 mentally and physically handicapped children and adults.

There are only seven nuns to take care of the entire needs of these orphans. There are nearly one thousand children they take care in 14 centre across the state.

I salute them and humble myself in front of them.

The pictures given below are the faces of God, God’s image, the gifts of God, the beautiful children of God. The faces are smiling but they are dying, they are hungry, they are abandoned, they are in pain and they have no dreams like us.

Its not art-Its Rosemary’s leaking roof of her house

It is easy to preach and tell some one who is hungry to believe in God and the way to heaven and Gods kingdom and all and tell him God will provide everything for them. Before “preaching” first give him something to eat and then preach him that this was Gods providence, then he will believe in God.

Act first and preach later.

Last one week I have been taking few days off from work, recuperating myself , recharging the worn out battery system of my physical body and to some extent my spiritual body.

While attending an Adoration service in nearby Carmel Monastery, my spiritual father , Fr Thobias asked me whether anyone can help to make a roof for a lady’s house in Vizhinjam .

14 members live under one roof-Rosemary’s House

Rosemary is a parttime sweeper in the Carmel church in Vazhuthacadu.

We went and saw her house near the beach not far from the famous beach resorts of Kovalam. It’s a fishing harbor village. 14 family members live under one leaking roof. It is pitiful and sad.

As a temporary measure, Fr Thobias arranged a tarpaulin over the existing roof underneath many tiles are missing and the wooden support is about to collapse any time. There are no doors or windows; the whole structure is near to collapse.

We took Sunil and Jimmy from the Vincent de Paul to guide and help us as they have good experience in making small houses for the poor.

We first met Fr Davidson, the Parish Priest and got his support and promised to give proper local man power help. He said they are really deserving people and he will co ordinate the efforts we are putting forward.

These people only need a non leaking shelter for all of these 14 people to live, nothing more they want, no complaints, they are hoping, trusting and praying to God some one will come and help them out.

Very prayerful family indeed.

After prayer, they offered us a snacks cake and tea (which I felt something remarkable).

Men go for fishing in sea, but not much catch these days…at time nothing…Sad state of affairs. How they survive, God only knows!!!!

We can’t do much to avert poverty, but just help a bit. Let us break our Pandora Box at times like this.

Let us pray and hope we can provide a decent roof for their Home.

Rosemary is only one among many who needs help in poor areas in the outskirt of City. There are more people like her in and around her house who are living miserable life.

You help the poor and I will repay

Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.

Prov. 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.

The message here is really very simple: help the needy. It’s not hard to understand; it’s just hard to do.

And the message is continuous. It’s in the Torah; it’s in the Prophets and Psalms; it’s in the Gospels; it’s in the Epistles.

God just wants those needy people helped.

God’s making a very simple proposal here: “You help the poor, and I’ll repay it.”

What happened to the little Girl?

Kevin Carter’s winning photo shows a heart-breaking scene of a starving child collapsed on the ground, struggling to get to a food center during a famine in the Sudan in 1993.In the background, a vulture stalks the emaciated child.

The incredibly powerful image graphically illustrated the terrible plight of those inflicted by desperate poverty. Even the most hard-hearted individual is likely to be affected by the photograph. For most people, there is an instinctive desire to somehow reach out and rescue the child from her terrible situation. Thus, it is not surprising that the photograph won such a prestigious award-the Pulitzer Award.

After the photograph was published in the New York Times, he became world famous and helped to raise awareness of global poverty.

However, Carter was condemned for taking the photograph and leaving the scene rather than actually helping the child.

The newspaper was swamped with letters and telephone calls, many asking what had happened to the child.

Every one asked what happened to the Child? And Kevin Carter faced fierce criticism for abandoning the child.

The weight and responsibility towards what he owed the child would be something he carried in his soul for the rest of his life. He became tormented.

Afterwards he became tormented and deeply troubled man .Several months after receiving the Pulitzer for Kevin carter returned to Africa, where he committed suicide.

This was found in his diary,

Dear God, I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests. I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted.

Are we like Kevin Carter?

When one see suffering and violence around us, even in the face of danger, we should try to intervene .We tend to be on lookers not getting involved in any crisis.

This applies to individuals and institutions alike, if anyone taking advantage of the ill, the suffering, the dying, it’s a human cruelty. Instead of not only praying to God in these adversities, like Kevin Carter did, we should do something.

Think for a moment-What ever job you do, are you like Kevin carter?

Are you an observer rather than a participant?
